www.infrequentatbest.com (!)
I finally went and bought myself some hosting through dreamhost. That means that you will now find all updates at www.infrequentatbest.com. I’m crossposting this to the old wordpress site, jeditang.wordpress.com. That means that if you see jeditang.wordpress.com in your browsers address bar now, you’ll need to update your bookmarks.
I spent most of my free time today exporting and recreating the old site, which sucked due to the server dreamhost has me on crashed. That being said, I got a sweet deal on two years registration and hosting for under twenty bucks.
installing wordpress was a “one click” affair, and I’m far from through making the site better. I’ll be adding a baby update page soon for those of you who only want baby news without the twitter/facebook noise, so keep checking for updates!

Huzzah!
We discovered in early December that Tori was pregnant. We’d been making a half assed effort for a few months, and when we decided to get serious, it happened pretty quick. I’d had a feeling for a week or two, but a missed period was our first piece of evidence. I returned from the drug store with one of those sweet new digital tests, which gave us a result in the time it takes the Millenium Falcon to do the Kessel Run. Our super-cool Clintonville famil doc confirmed a week later.
I’m writing this on December 6th, our 5th week. The chances for a miscarry are still high, and we’ve yet to tell anyone. If this post goes live, that means we’ve crossed the ten week threshold got a sweet 6 week ultrasound confirming a heartbeat and most of you who read this already know.
Tori’s been really good so far… emotional ups and downs and a bit tired. I’m incredibly excited about the whole thing, and have been spending my time researching and learning all I can.
We’re in week 8 now, and things are great. T is (we think) heading out of her everything-tastes-gross-or-smells-gross-so-just-give-me-carbs phase, so we’re thinking about good food again. Our first visist to her new OB/GYN was great, and we’ll see him again in a few weeks. I dropped the news at work and on twitter/facebook today… people freaked out. I really think I surprised some people, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive. We told the grandparents-to-be over the holiday break, they couldn’t be more thrilled. It’s the first grandchild for both families, and we’re looking forward to a wealth of support from both sides of the family.
I also have to mention that our best friends in Columbus are expecting, too. They’re four weeks ahead of us, and from what I’ve gleamed on teh internets, there’s no way for us to catch up to them. We really lucked out having someone we’re so close to to share the experience with. It occurred to me immediately, of course, but it wasn’t until I was standing next to the other papa to be looking at the two wives together that my mind was blown.
Internets, we’re having a baby. Be afraid…be very afraid.

Todd Snider Freebie
Todd Snider is one of my top 5 favorite singer-songwriters, and he’s giving his new disc away for free at www.toddsnider.net . I’ve been listening for a few minutes now and really like what I hear, including a great cover of “Fortunate Son”.

The Obama Rally…
…was fantastic. I’m sunburned all to hell, so tomorrows OSU game is going to be rough, but it felt so good to be that close to the man who will be leading us for the next four years. Maybe a picture later, but for now, a bit of the transcript that brought tears to my eyes:
Together, we cannot fail. Not now. Not when we have a crisis to solve and an economy to save. Not when there are so many Americans without jobs and without homes. Not when there are families who can’t afford to see a doctor, or send their child to college, or pay their bills at the end of the month. Not when there is a generation that is counting on us to give them the same opportunities and the same chances that we had for ourselves.
We can do this. Americans have done this before. Some of us had grandparents or parents who said maybe I can’t go to college but my child can; maybe I can’t have my own business but my child can. I may have to rent, but maybe my children will have a home they can call their own. I may not have a lot of money but maybe my child will run for Senate. I might live in a small village but maybe someday my son can be president of the United States of America.
Now it falls to us. Together, we cannot fail.

And…We’re Back
I’m still here, guys, it’s cool, don’t worry. Oh, you didn’t miss me? That’s OK, I still love you. Hey, have you heard about the country? It’s totally all fucked up! I’d like to talk about that later. But now it’s bedtime, and I need me some sleep.
